How to Begin:
1. Have students design and sketch a gown. Sketches, images and fabric preferences are scanned into the computer. Discuss the inspiration behind the creation including design aspects and fabric choices. Further discuss how historical designs have shaped the Textile and Design industry today. Consider the cut in a neckline that might be compared to the Victorian era etc. 2. Using the World Wide Web, students research, locate and save to file designs from historical era’s the compare to their own. Students compare and the images, both on design and fabric choices. Tip! Students may find a few designs that show similarities to their own. While one historical piece has a similar neckline to their own, another may have the similar sleeves. 3. Demonstrate the technological skills required to create a Power Point presentation including features such as background colour, layout, fonts, texts and hyperlinks to Web Sites. 4. Utilising the demonstrated skills, students create a Microsoft PowerPoint presentation to showcase their designs demonstrating the comparisons between both their gown and historical influences.
5. Use the computer lab in your school and allow students to access each others presentations by moving between computers viewing the slideshows.
